The paper presents important new information concerning the family of Domenico Beccafumi, useful in completing the biography written by Giorgio Vasari. The unpublished wills of the artist's father (1495) and mother (1497) confirm that Domenico was born in the country and in his early years enjoyed the protection of Lorenzo Beccafumi, as Vasari says. The new documents indicate that the future painter was born and spent his childhood at Simignano, near Sovicille, and not at Montaperti, as Gaetano Milanesi had previously suggested. Additional information is provided relating to the artist's children and heirs.
