Catalogue of the exhibition (Laurentian Library in Florence, October 1999 – January 2000) organized by Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica in Amsterdam to commemorate the fifth centenary of the death of Marsilio Ficino who, in the XV century, translated the Corpus Hermeticum, thus rediscovering the legendary author Hermes Trismegistus (c. I-III century A.D.) whose works embody magical, astrological and alchemical doctrines.
The catalogue is divided in two sections; the first contains reproductions of manuscripts and incunabula illustrating Renaissance Hermetism and 'hermetical' books from the library of Marsilio Ficino that now belongs to the Biblioteca Laurenziana and to other Florentine libraries. The second section presents a wide selection of texts that are part of the collections of the Biblioheca Philosophica Hermetica, a library specialized in rare editions and manuscripts on hermetic philosophy, alchemy, mysticism and Rosacrucianism, and who exhibits its precious texts in Italy for the first time.
