The Porcelain Museum at Palazzo Pitti, inaugurated in 1973, contains one of the most important porcelain collections in Europe, with over 2000 pieces of various provenance documenting the history of Florence and its rulers. The present catalogue – the last in a series devoted to the various collections in the Museum – examines the significant corpus of Viennese origin; over onehundred-thirty pieces, many of which are true masterpieces, are thouroughly described in detailed technical entries and beautifully reproduced in colour, thanks to a new photographic campaign specially commissioned for this book. The texts by Sheila Tabakoff – a noted authority on German porcelain – are introduced by a more general but equally interesting text by the Museum's present Director Marilena Mosco.
