Published on the occasion of the exhibition at the Uffizi Gallery (July - October 1998), this catalogue introduces the Feroni collection donated by the family to the Florence Council, hence deposited in the Uffizi where it was shown for the first time.
The Feroni collection comprises 158 paintings covering a period from the 16th to the 19th
centuries; it includes several important works depicting religious subjects, still lifes, battles, portraits, executed by major artists such as Filippino Lippi, Rosso Fiorentino, Lorenzo Lippi, Carlo Dolci, Sustermans, Allori and many others. Unlike the exhibition, where only a selection was presented, the catalogue includes the entire collection and gives an updated critical and bibliographical account of the paintings written by eminent specialists; the curator of the catalogue – Caterina Caneva – is the Director of the Department of Seventeenth to Nineteenth Century painting at the Uffizi Gallery.
