In the second half of the fifteenth century, several sculptors active in Florence, such as Desiderio da Settignano and Mino da Fiesole, sculpted bas-reliefs depicting profiles of Roman emperors and celebrated figures of antiquity. This iconography, which was born and diffused thanks to the rapport between Florentine artists and patrons of the courts of Naples, Ferrara, and Milan, was destined to enjoy an enormous success as an architectonic decorative element. The book documents the interest of antique dealer Stefano Bardini in these works and illustrates those that are today displayed in the Florentine museum dedicated to him.
