The caricatures by Gian Lorenzo Bernini are that class of works by the artist for which the difference between the importance that contemporaries attached to them and the great uncertainty of our present knowledge is most considerable. Only three sheets are unanimously acknowledged as autograph works, and their scarceness makes it far from easy to propose new numbers for this catalogue. The article discusses a drawing that has appeared several times on the market, though has never been published in a scientific journal, which certainly appears to be a creation of Bernini, and could even be by his own hand.
