Based on the order’s own sources and on other unpublished documentary evidence, this paper proposes a reconstruction of the conformation and 14th-century liturgical furnishings of the destroyed church of the Humiliati in Pistoia, dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene. In particular, the essay aims to trace the chalice by Andrea di Jacopo d’Ognabene and the two altarpieces now in the local Museo Civico, works by the ‘Master of 1310’ and the ‘Master of the Pietà of Pistoia’, back to a common project of endowment for the church. While the first painting was undoubtedly placed over the high altar, the second – identical in structure though smaller in size – was probably positioned above the altar in the chapel of the sisters of the order, next to the openings connecting the area used by the female community with the presbytery of the church.
